Morning or night, the right skincare routine can help keep your skin hydrated, protected, and rejuvenated all day long.
A consistent skincare routine tailored to your skin’s needs can boost hydration, repair, and protection around the clock.
The right morning routine will help your skin feel calm and hydrated all day long. Dr. Piyusha Bhagde, Founder and Chief Dermatologist, Skin Ethics Clinic, Akola, Maharashtra shares the right routine for you
Morning Skincare Routine:
Step 1: Cleanser
A clean face is your starting point for a healthy, glowing complexion. Thorough cleansing removes impurities like dirt, oil, and sebum. Gently pat (never rub) your skin dry with a clean towel after washing.
Step 2: Serum
Whether water-based or oil-based, serums are easily absorbed by the skin—and a little goes a long way. A serum designed for daytime will hydrate your skin, protect it from daily pollution, and deliver concentrated ingredients like antioxidants.
Step 3: Moisturizer
Moisturizing is vital to keeping skin healthy and helping aging skin appear more youthful. The right moisturizer can help prevent both dryness and extreme oiliness.
Step 4: Eye Cream
The sensitive skin around your eyes needs special attention. Eye cream helps treat the appearance and development of wrinkles and is formulated specifically for this delicate facial tissue.
Step 5: Sunscreen
Sunscreen is essential all year round, even on cloudy days. It protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which can damage cells and age the skin prematurely—and it’s crucial for preventing skin cancer. For your morning routine, use one with SPF 30 or higher. Apply at least 30 minutes before going outside.
To make sure you wake up with a fresh-faced complexion, use a slightly different routine before you hit the hay.
Night Skincare Routine:
Step 1: Double Cleanse
Double cleansing ensures you’re removing all impurities from your skin. For maximum benefit, be sure to select products formulated for your skin type.
Double cleansing starts with an oil-based cleanser, which is most effective for removing oil-based products like makeup and sunscreen, and ends with a water-based cleanser, which better targets sweat and bacteria.
Step 2: Serum
A nighttime serum gives your skin some extra TLC while you sleep. Choose one with AHAs or BHAs, hyaluronic acid, antioxidants, or peptides. A serum can boost your skin’s ability to repair itself at night.
Step 3: Moisturizer
Repeat the method you use in the morning. Depending on your skin type, you can use the same product in the morning and at night, or you may choose one with SPF for the morning and a creamier, more hydrating product at night.
Step 4: Eye Cream
Repeat the method you use in the morning. The same eye cream can work for both day and night, or you can select one with SPF for mornings and a heavier, more hydrating eye cream for the evening.
Step 5: Retinol
Retinol is available in several forms, such as oils and serums, and is often mixed with a cream moisturizer to reduce irritation. Retinol causes sensitivity to the sun’s UV rays, so it’s best used at night.
Because retinol speeds up the rate at which skin regenerates, it can improve your skin’s texture. For aging skin, it can reduce fine lines and lighten dark spots. It also improves oily or acne-prone skin by reducing oiliness, unclogging pores, and removing dead skin cells.
